Role Summary  
Swim Instructors will be responsible for conducting swim lessons for multiple clients of different ages, abilities, and skill levels. At times, Swim Instructors may be asked to perform ad hoc business-related duties as well. This role typically reports to the Aquatics Director. 

Role Functions
(included but not limited to) 

  • Organize and instruct individual students and small groups in swim lessons and aquatic safety.  
  • Ensure lesson objectives adhere to procedures and methods as referenced in the Training Manual and during in-service training.  
  • Educate and enforce safety rules. Strive to prevent accidents and maintain discipline. Administer first aid in the event of injury.  
  • Complete all paperwork as it pertains to student records and progress reports. 
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe pool environment for clients, staff, and the general public.  
  • Act as a company spokesperson at community events by educating potential clients and community members on water safety and drowning prevention. 
  • Represent the Philosophy of Glasscourt Swim and Fitness. 
  • Perform cleaning tasks of both the pool and its surroundings as needed.  
  • Attend weekly meetings and training sessions and ensure that training manuals, handouts, and study guides are completed if applicable or reviewed. 
  • Perform ad hoc duties as needed (e.g., office/clerical work, marketing & event participation, etc).  
  • Display excellent customer service and communicate with everyone who comes to the facility.  
  • Smile and have fun during the entire shift. Assure that the last student gets the same enthusiasm as the first student.  
  • Able to operate the pool covers when needed.

Role Qualifications

  • Knowledge of general safety rules and precautions related to a swimming pool environment.
  • Experience in lifeguarding, swim instruction, and water safety is a plus.
  • Professional demeanor and appearance when representing.
  • Passion for the water and working with children.
  • Ability to work positively with a wide range of students, including those with special needs and varying ages. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both participants and facility staff.
  • Certifications:
    • First Aid and CPR/AED Certification for the Professional Rescuer (Required)
    • WSI or Equivalent. (Preferred)
    • Lifeguard Training. (Preferred)

Physical Demands
  • Continual standing and walking during shift.
  • Continual talking in person or on the phone during shift.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Will occasionally encounter toxic chemicals during shifts.

Vision Requirements
  • Visually recognize an emergency
  • Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors)
  • Peripheral vision (the ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point)
  • Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more) and Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)

Work Environment
  • Wet or humid conditions
  • Potential Toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Exposure to motor noises and work near moving mechanical parts
  • In and out pool temperatures ranging from 80 to 86 degrees
Compensation: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
